ABSTRACT

This study examined the perceive influence of library service on senior secondary school student mathematics In makurdi local Government area of Benue state. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the roles being played by the teachers, parents, philanthropists and government in keeping libraries in secondary schools, ascertain whether school libraries are giving enough fund for running and maintenance or not, know the number of secondary schools that have well established school library, know the percentage of the students population that a school library can accommodate at a time, identify how the school libraries are being manned in the area of study, and know that the school libraries re-adequately stocked or not in the area of study. The study adopted the survey research design. The study population comprises all the public secondary schools of 11,795 in the area while five secondary schools were randomly selected for the study. Three research questions were drawn to guide the study and two hypotheses were tested. Instruments used for the study are questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed both descriptively and using inferential statistical method. Findings revealed that library services and resources have significant influence of library service on senior secondary school student mathematics In makurdi local Government area of Benue state. Findings also revealed that library services would predict students’ academic achievement in Mathematics makurdi Benue State. The study therefore recommended that modern libraries should be provided in all secondary schools. Such libraries should be equipped with resources that enhance effective learning. Also, trained personnel should be encouraged and employed to manage school libraries.
